Supporting El Dorado Vista - bequests

Mary Baker Eddy wrote in a letter to one of the branch churches, "If He be with us, the wayside is a sanctuary, and the desert a resting-place peopled with living witnesses of the fact that "God is Love." That is how we picture our desert facility in Phoenix, Arizona. For over 36 years, El Dorado Vista has provided this sanctuary in the southwest for Christian Science healing supported by Christian Science nursing. How grateful we can be for decades of healing and comfort.

We know that nothing was more important to our Leader than Christian Scientists' devotion to Christian healing. She made it quite clear that healing was vital to the continuation and success of the Cause of Christian Science. She also wrote a bylaw for the Christian Science nurse in the Church Manual, making nursing an established activity for members of The Mother Church.

Today, Christian Science literature provides constant reports of individuals helped, supported, healed while having nursing care in a Christian Science nursing facility. One healing of a young child took place at El Dorado Vista.

A very important way that you can ensure that El Dorado Vista will continue to be there when needed is to provide for it in your estate planning. Many fine charities have all sorts of people to provide bequests, but El Dorado Vista must rely on Christian Scientists almost completely for such meaningful support.

The Importance of Bequests

Over the years, El Dorado Vista has been greatly blessed by the gifts of bequests coming through a will. Many times a bequest has come to us just when it was most needed.

For those who support Christian Science nursing and want to make a contribution that will bless the Christian Science community in the years to come, providing for El Dorado Vista through your bequest might be just the right step.

A bequest can take various forms:

  • You can specify an outright gift of cash or securities.
  • You can give a percentage of your estate to El Dorado Vista, rather than a fixed sum.
  • You can give a residual bequest that gives El Dorado Vista all or a portion of whatever remains after debts, taxes, expenses and all other bequests have been paid.

Making a difference

Today, more than ever before, many are finding satisfaction in giving to charities as well as providing for family members through their estate plans. It's possible to make a real difference when deciding how to direct your assets. Some find that through a bequest they are able to do more for El Dorado Vista than they might have thought possible.
